Making Your Word(s) Count

Participant-73x73Yes, it’s that time of year again . . . when the hearts and minds of men (and women and children) turn to thoughts of . . . novel writing!

Tomorrow, November 1st, begins National Novel Writing Month—otherwise known as NaNoWriMo or NaNo (not to be confused with the fine Apple product of a similar name), for short.

For those of you who prefer numbers over words, here’s how the math works out:

x = 50,000 words / 30 days

By most standards, this might seem like an equation* to insanity.

Well, it is.

It can also be invigorating, motivating, and inspiring.

My project for this year will be based on idea I had a few years back, but never fully developed beyond the background of the world. I liken it to the kind of story that Larry Niven, Jerry Pournelle, and Steven Barnes would tell (singly or collectively) in books like The Integral Trees or The Legacy of Heorot.

As always, you can track my progress here.

Stay tuned for weekly updates!
