NaNoWriMo 2011 Report: Week 4
Current word count: 56,150
Average words per day: 2,307
As you can see from the stats, I had a very productive week!
This is in spite of it getting a nasty head cold and it being Thanksgiving week. The muse got a bit fixated on the interactions between two of the characters and, like the Energizer Bunny, just kept going . . . and going . . . and going.
I purposely tried to drive myself toward more dialogue this week and learned two things: 1) it builds word count much more slowly than exposition, and 2) the writing can really seem to fly by when two (or more) characters really get chatting (which helps to negate the effect of #1).
November 30th is definitely not going to see the end of this story. I still have not explored the backstories of two of the major characters, nor have I completed all of the ideas that I wanted to present in the main storyline. I’m not really sure where this current plotline is heading next, but I plan to dedicate November 30th to writing the final scenes to ensure that those get written down as part of this month’s efforts.
Just two more days—and some hundreds of words—to go . . .
